Welcome, @levi1225 . I have run my own mail server for nearly 30 years, first on Sendmail, now on Postfix. I enjoy the challenge of keeping spam off my server (I currently get 0 spam, and usually fewer than 10 spam attempts per day), and I also have my server configured to allow me to send from my gmail and iCloud addresses, as well as my personal address, all from my server.
I have also run my own web server for just as long. At first I ran Apache, then Apache with vhosts, but this point, the web server hosts only Docker images (one per virtual host), using Traefik for routing.
Welcome @levi1225 Great to have you here. Sounds like you’ve made serious progress with email delivery (Yahoo is no joke!). @unixdude has had great success with this. I could be wrong, but I think starting a new mail server and gaining good IP/senders reputation has become more challenging in the past decade. But understandably so because of the exponential growth of SPAM and malware.
We would love to follow your journey, might encourage others like myself to give it a go. Free to open a new thread in Linux Support where we can help, learn and follow progress.
Looking forward to hearing more about your setup and your journey toward offering managed alternatives.

Hello guys & girls. I am from Argentina, my name is Pablo, I work in tech basically hardware and networking installation since … uhhhh … about 30 years ago. LOL. Started with low level networking about 5 years ago, Linux was a hobby for me these last years, slowliy learning more… but in 2022 I started to study security, red team/blue team, defensive etc. So deeper level of linux was needed. And here I am, always trying to learn more to do a faster and better work.
Hello There,
I’ve been using Linux Operating system since year 2006 when I was graduating student at my college schools, I tested some Linux Distro on my Old PC, I was amazed that it runs faster than previous OS (Windows), I use Linux for maintenance, backup files, and other technical fixes like other windows-pc was corrupted and infected with some malwares or viruses. file recovery, and other technical stuff using CLI Terminal and I love to use my Linux-Computer as alternative pc because I personalized my desktop, some of my friends cannot use my pc because they cannot understand how it works, that’s what some funny story thing. Until now I have my Linux installed on my personal laptop, and I am happy that may son is using it. I have a lot of good-a-Very Good experiences as I use Linux system every day, I am not an expert but still learning more, I want to learn more… hoping this community could give and fulfill my hunger of learning… Thank You.
I like GNU/linux (currently I’m using Ubuntu), the FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) and programming. Currently, I know Python, Haxe, HTML, CSS and I am learning C++.
I was a computer technician in schools working with BBC micros and then Windows PC’s. The PC’s were networked using a Novel server and then later with Windows servers. I retired in 2008 and started using Linux as my main OS soon after that. I rarely use Windows now
I haven’t been over here much because I’ve been traveling and also doing outdoor and other activities. I’m really pleased to see several people join and contribute since the last time I was active. Welcome to all!
Hi everyone,
I’m Rahul Kumar Singh. Since 2020, I’ve been working in IT, primarily as a Linux System Administrator. I have strong experience with Ubuntu, RedHat, and AlmaLinux.
My name is Zach, I know a little about linux, from 25+ years ago. I have used windows for the last couple decades due to work and then familiarity. I finally have the freedom to use what I want and so I have returned to Linux. Now that I’m back, I remember all the fun it used to be having the freedoms that you all enjoy. I’m truly greatful to be back running a linux machine. In the last few months I started with dual booting Win/Mint on an MSI summit, Dual booting an older macbook pro, and then realized I wasn’t using the Win part at all… So I set my MSI up on Tuxedo and after getting used to it, I ordered this Tuxedo Infinitybook 14 pro gen 10. I had to wait a while for the thing to be built (Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 w/128G ram and a 4T ssd) but it’s been absolutely amazing this past month of owning it. So, now I’m here to actually start learning what I’m doing, and some day hopefully help out in some way.
Welcome to our community and welcome back to the world of Linux. I too had a similar journey. I was on Linux for a few years before 2015, and then I returned to Windows because it was just less of a headache with specific software. After Windows 11 was introduced with it’s new hardware requirements I switched back to Linux and haven’t looked back. Mint is a good start. I started with Zorin.
After the initial install, I am sure you will continue to explore. I have been through quite the number of distros and desktops and window managers. I would say it has been a lovely journey so far. I wish you well as you continue yours.
Retired, based in UK, ex university senior lecturer, control systems theory and robotics. Used Linux fairly frequently since about 1990. Apart from Suns running Solaris, I started with Mandrake. In the 80’s had a dabble with Xenix on a Perkin Elmer 3230. Currently wedded to Endeavouros. There haven’t been any Windows (or dirty old Macs) in my house for many years.
