I got a basic BTEC qualification in electronics in 1985 but ended up working in schools as an ICT technician installing and maintaining workstations. My first school had BBC Micros with a BBC network. I had to solder the networking chips onto the motherboard in those days. When I worked with windows the servers were installed and maintained by other people. My job was to install and maintain new workstations and software and help staff and pupils to use them. In my last job I had 1000 pupils, 70 staff, 70 laptops, 400 workstaiions and 2 windows servers. By then I had a support technician to help me.
