We know inboxes can get overwhelming, and LinuxCommunity.io sends a lot of useful updates by default: replies, mentions, private messages, and even weekly summaries.
For 95% of members, who don’t visit daily or even weekly, the default is usually useful to stay in the loop. But if you visit our community daily, you may prefer to dial notifications down so you’re not seeing the same info twice.
Here are some quick pointers:
- Switch email notifications to only when away and also unless previously sent. Selecting this option means you’ll only get emails if you haven’t been active on the site in the past 12 hours.
- Adjust summaries: Weekly or monthly activity digests help you catch up if you miss a few days. However, we’ve added the Weekly Forum Summary thread that updates every Sunday night. So if you visit more than once a week, you may want to increase the summary duration to monthly.
You can find these settings under profile preferences for Email Notifications:
This isn’t about turning things off. It’s about tailoring notifications so they’re useful without getting in your way. Whether you want maximum reminders or just light updates, you’re in control.
Here are my preferred settings:
- I would rather not include previous replies if I’ve already received them because I’ve most likely already read them.
- I usually visit every day, so I don’t receive the summary. So with this setting, if I miss a day, I’ll get a summary.
Every thing else is left default.
