Sometimes I doubt my sanity

I just installed the UbuntuStudio LTS version on my recording laptop.

Lots of errors during updating and I couldn’t figure it out

15 minutes later: Oh, it might help if I connect to a network :man_facepalming:

Nudge! Nudge! Wink! Wink!

Always check the wires before looking for more obscure causes for problems!

I find as I get older I am more preoccupied, and not paying attention to what I am doing but thinking of other things. It leads to the same kind of things you are experiencing. I really have to focus now days.

What @Jymm said. This has been incredibly true for both my wife and myself more so for her to the point she loses sleep overthinking things.

@Jymm Same problem here, there have been times I have repeated a task 3 to 5 times because during the process my mind drifts and then I can’t remember where I was in the task, and I decided to start over just to make sure.

But as you said it does result in the same effect, the simple solutions can easily be overlooked. It reminds me of a college math professor that made an observation about a math competition. The first year students always finished faster than the fourth year students. Why? The fourth year students had more methods to tackle a problem, than the first year ones. Therefore they spent more time trying to figure out which method to use.

It’s so easy to miss the acronym K.I.S.S.

:face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth: Actually, installing Ubuntu without Internet connection is my favourite way of an installation… Many times local only installation proved to be more robust and error-free compared to networked one.

I agree and also never use the upgrade software during installation option either. I often times like to install the software I want before upgrading at all. I have found I have less problems with dependencies that way.

The only time I tried install ove the internet, it failed so badly that I have never since considered it as even a valid approach for install.

My strongest recommendation is to ALWAYS download the ISO, then “burn” a stick or disc, then do install disconnected.

As Eugene said, the local-only approach bypasses many potential pitfalls, and I have never had any issue performing an install successfully with that approach!
