Rhino Linux - Ubuntu-based, rolling release distro, with Pacstall & XFCE

Has anyone tried Rhino Linux?:

I’ve been working on an article the past 2 weeks, follows along and hopefully it adds to these two:

Without writing an article here—because really I just want to showcase Rhino Linux—I bumped into this because of my recent switch from GNOME to XFCE which mates Debian Testing via Kali’s staging + XFCE.

This caused me to give Rhino Linux a serious look. Has anyone heard of or used Rhino before?:

Hi, @hydn … and everyone!

So, I remember that, a few years ago, in 2020, Martin Wimpress (a.k.a. “Wimpy”) - one of the two co-founders of the “Ubuntu MATE” Linux distribution - built a tool (that he described, at https://github.com/wimpysworld/rolling-rhino, as a “Simple shell script to make Ubuntu track the devel series”) called “Rolling Rhino”, that could “Convert Ubuntu into a rolling release”:

As it appears in that web page: "This project has served its purpose. It inspired another group of developers to create a fully fledged Ubuntu Rolling Rhino distro." - which would be a Linux distro called “Rolling Rhino Remix” - the web site is still available at https://rollingrhino.org/

I’ve found the following Blog post, in the “Rhino Linux Blog” - https://blog.rhinolinux.org/ - web site (posted on 16th October 2022), that explains how “Rolling Rhino Remix” was eventually replaced by “Rhino Linux” - https://rhinolinux.org/ :

I hope you all find this interesting

So cool!

That’s a great bit of history, @ricmarques. I had no idea about Wimpy and that it was behind the original rolling-rhino shell script.

The lineage is interesting too and that blog post you linked is pretty honest.

Thanks for digging this up, adds a lot more context to where Rhino sits today.

I’m certainly rooting for it.
