Pacstall is one of those tools that fills a real gap for Ubuntu users. If you’ve ever wished Ubuntu had something like the AUR, this is it. It pulls source packages, handles dependencies, and installs them on Ubuntu without you having to chase down PPAs or build everything by hand.
I din’t know pacstall but it sounds very cool.
Last year i’ve tried Rhino but I can’t remember about pacstall.
If I remember right, Rhino uses by default nala over apt - I like this.
Interesting that you mention nala
I’ve been using it for a few months now on both Ubuntu-MATE 24.04 and 26.04
I really like it (and it looks gorgeous)
but:
It happened once that it did not see any update while there were a few. Using apt fixed it and I’m still wondering what the fsck caused nala’s blindness in this case.
