What is it?
Mousiki Plus is a keyboard-driven music and internet-radio player that runs in the terminal (C++17). It’s build for lovers of the terminal and people who like retrowave/cyberpunk designs. It’s a heavily modified and extended Windows port of the original basic Mousiki by itzender5820 (Apache 2.0). It also runs on Linux (I only tested WSL) and macOS (not tested so far). I would be happy for any kind of feedback. <3
Main features:
- Local library with fuzzy search; MP3/FLAC/WAV/Opus etc., plus tracker modules, console music and C64
.sid(via ffmpeg / sidplayfp) - Radio mode with timeshift, recording and listening history
- Spectrogram (Audacity-style) and an YX/YT oscilloscope (full resolution image and ASCII-Braille appearance) that can also be shown in in extra window-

- fetch meta data via AcoustID/MusicBrainz
- playlist editor (incld. M3U/M3U8 import/export capabilities)
- remote control via smartphone browser or app (Android)

How to try it
- Windows: installer or portable zip; Linux:
.debor portable; macOS:.pkgor portable — all from the latest release (see github repo) - latest release is 4.2.0 and src is currently 4.3.0, where I just adjusted the oscilloscope in window mode to be more bright and added a Text to osci/spectrogram feature. Not too much of a change so far, so I’ll wait with the next release incl. installers.
- Or build from source (CMake, scripts
setup.ps1/setup.shinstall the optional tools)
Source, license, honesty notes
- Source: GitHub (link above). License: Apache-2.0 everywhere (repo, README, manual). Third-party code is permissive and listed in the README; sidplayfp (GPL) for running C64 tunes is only run as a separate program, never linked or bundled (short guide in how to build on Win via MSYS2 UCRT64 can be found in the readme).
- Binaries are unsigned (no code-signing certificate), so Windows SmartScreen / macOS Gatekeeper may warn on first start. Each release has
SHA256SUMS.txtplus a GPG signature (.asc) so you can verify the downloads; the README explains how. - Grey area: the online part uses yt-dlp to search, stream and download from YouTube/SoundCloud/Bandcamp. Whether that’s allowed depends on those services’ terms and your country; it’s optional and off the critical path.
Feedback, issues and discussions on GitHub are very welcome! Would love to hear your opinion and experience using it on native Linux and macOS! <3
