When news broke that ConfigServer (Way to the Web Ltd.) would shut down on August 31, 2025, it sent shockwaves through the hosting community. Like many longtime users, I was both surprised and disappointed by how this shutdown was handled. The announcement gave us barely a month’s notice to scramble for solutions. Great guide Hayden! but for those that missed to update to 15.00 - updating now is a bit tricky as in the code there is still a check that download servers must start with download, took me a while to figure why I was unable to update now..

Please consider adding sentinelfirewall/sentinel to the list. It’s a csf fork that we at OpenPanel are maintaining and invited DirectAdmin, cPanel and CyberPanel to use

How did you get around this?

Noted on sentinelfirewall.

I removed that check from a file, but also just re-run of the install script has the same effect, as csf does not really have a good update logic, they just run the install script to insert any files that Are missing

Update (late December):
I’ll be updating this article shortly. In the meantime, note that Waytotheweb has removed their GitHub repository. As a result, the download link previously referenced here
https://github.com/waytotheweb/scripts/raw/refs/heads/main/csf.tgz
now returns a 404 error, and the entire github.com/waytotheweb repository is no longer available.

Because of this, I now recommend installing CSF using the ConfigServer.dev:

Yeah, CSF updates are always a bit messy. The removal of Waytotheweb’s repo definitely makes things trickier. ConfigServer.dev is the way to go for now. As for SentinelFirewall, it’s a solid alternative, especially for anyone using cPanel, DirectAdmin, or CyberPanel. Just make sure to back up your firewall rules regularly—CSF has a habit of throwing curveballs.
