Use to use Windows 10 but it was to sterile and boring, heard about Linux, investigated and decided this my cup of Coffee! Nothing Sterile in Ubuntu OSs but the grey matter between my ears, ie , I am an old Rookie. I Have Popi, Makulu Linux, Zorin, Ubuntu, all on separate HDDs. I live in South Africa on the East Coast of a Province called Kwazulu Natal alongside the Indian Ocean watching the diverted shipping, presently the results from the crap in the Red sea. I Am looking for advice. I made a backup of my main OS onto a usb connected HDD. When I connect this HDD, my PC says it Cannot be mounted as I have no Admin authority, so how do I give myself Sudo command when I boot up or how do I boot up in sudo Sudo command. I have paged around but to no avail. I have checked out the Bios instructions, but no help there. Thanks in advance, by the way, I see the last entry on this page was 2022. Is this page still active?
Welcome to the forums! Awesome to learn more about you. Honored to have you join us.
Can you start a new thread for the backup advice. Just as this thread isn’t really for support so you may not get a response here.
Feel free to include screenshots.
Also for your setup you are welcome to share your neofetch or desktop screenshots in our wallpaper and desktop show off thread. I’m on mobile but will edit my post with the link later.

Old timer from the early days of TCP/IP while working at the Pentagon(PDP’s, LSI’s and VAX’s) for years.
Most memorable time there was being Escorted by armed guards while carrying a brief case with one Symmetric-Key into the SEC OF DEF office and do my thing, Just like the movies… ONLY I’M REAL !
I did 10+ years field service, 10+ years component level repair (When the average charge per per board was $10K for past DEC and Sequent corps, NOT Throw away like today), last 10+ years IT.
DEC = DigitalEquipmentCorporation, Aka= “Dig-it-al” who changed their name to Compaq then currently to HP.
Sequent Corp was bought by IBM.
I worked for Motorola, DEC, Verizon, and few more, I fired them all !(for real)
They say most delusional people often Identify with a character in a book/movie including me, for me it would be the movie “GOOD WILL HUNTING”, and like Will turned down a 3 letter agency job. Again that is Hollywood, but I’M REAL !

Hi, I am Matthew Bryan
I am by trade a Computer Aided Drafting & Design Expert. I have been using AutoCAD based software since its Release as R14.
I’ve been interested in learning Linux and C++ for years now and decided to take the plunge.
-Also contemplating developing a Linux based CAD software.
I am a complete novice, so assistance is definitely welcome!
Hi, my name is Jordan and I’m quite a beginner. Apple Basic in the '80s, built my own PCs / OS on Laptops, XP to 10, Linux Mint, Macbooks, Attempts to make Pinephone (not pro) work on div. Distros… RPi 3B+.
My minimal knowledge of Linux command structure and modern programming (Python?) keeps me a bit blocked.
Looking forward to what I might learn here!
Grüße from Germany
Hey everyone, I’m thrilled to be part of this vibrant Linux community! I’m a 57-year-old from the beautiful state of Colorado, and my Linux journey officially kicked off last year. Why, you might ask? Well, I’m on a mission to become an ethical hacker. Despite having limited time to dive into the Linux world, I’ve made significant progress, and the learning experience has been nothing short of exhilarating.
Interestingly, my initial goals for mastering Linux have evolved. Inspired by the flexibility and power of Linux, I’ve found myself cultivating a business idea. It’s amazing how the open-source philosophy and the world of Linux can ignite entrepreneurial sparks. I’m here to share my experiences, seek guidance, and connect with like-minded individuals on this exciting Linux adventure.
Looking forward to engaging with all of you and contributing to the Linux community!
