So I have an Old LG V30 phone I’ve seen so many thumbnails on youtube or articles on reddit about Ubuntu touch or other Linux OS for old phones. I’m just trying to see if I would be able to do something like that with this old phone and if so what would the benefits be I’m still new to all this but I do like to tinker around with small projects if I am able to.
You can experiment with it, but it depends on your exact LG V30 model and whether the bootloader can be unlocked. Some variants allow it, some don’t.
Ubuntu Touch and similar Linux ports are usually community projects, so hardware support can be hit or miss. Camera, fingerprint, or cellular features sometimes don’t fully work. It’s more of a learning project than something you’d use daily.
If you just want to tinker, it can be a fun way to learn about unlocking, flashing, and custom ROMs. If you want something stable, a custom Android ROM like LineageOS is usually the safer route.
I’d check XDA for your specific V30 model first and see what’s actually supported.
This is an excellent question, as I have continually seen a build up of linux OS for phones. As time progresses, we may eventually see a great working OS, as we have seen overtime for computers.
