on top of this juicy hardware highly optimized kernel
ofc not the mainstream linux kernel but
Steamos kernel
scheduling - tiny no bloat - only amd code
The kernel and graphics stack are fine-tuned to work with Gamescope
stability - and some amd code merges hasn’t made to the mainstream yet
steamos kernel is faster because they removed what unnecessary


on top we have of course steam os
arch linux based with steam tweaks
gamescope
proton
steam app
KDE desktop
Immutable root file system (you can only write in $HOME)
fun fact : you can nuke steam os and install arch :smile: if you not into gaming


after all I think this product worth my respect no matter what valve put the price tag

If it costs less than $400, then, maybe. But it has only 8 GB of VRAM; it may only be great at indie games and other less hardware demanding titles.

The Xbox has 10 GB VRAM, and the PS5 allocates dynamically up to about 12 GB.

IMO, it competes more with a Nintendo Switch, for general family gaming/living room entertainment. The Steam store for sure has a TON of games that would be more than happy with those specs. From a Nintendo Switch type of gaming, it looks very solidly placed! :alien_monster:

8 GB vram in 2026 isn’t good I agree
but for me is enough this device give you freedom unlike
xbox and ps5 is locked up ecosystem.
