Hi @Paradoxicalhume and Welcome to the Linux Community! Perhaps you should set up your own blog! I am sure you’re not in over your head, autistic = brilliant! I love your question: what is actually the Internet, questioning things that others (like me) take for granted is good. For instance, have you come across GridPP (Grid for Particle Physics)? It’s a computational grid (an Internet for algorithms). But in the conventional internet, with AI all over the place, I think we’ll see it morph into something new. The next ten years (as usual) will usher in a new revolution! I hope it will be nice to me.

Hello everyone and Thank You Hydn. for the invitation. I’m literally just getting in from buying a new cellular phone and a tube of thermal paste after leaving work.
Presently, I work for a company that manufactures Fuel delivery systems for gasoline and diesel engines. General Motors is our primary customer. Anyway, My name is Jefferson Grindle and I’ve been into tech and computers since 87 having returned to the States during the previous year and had bought my first computer which was an Atari 120XL. the following year I bought the 1040ST, and then later the STE. In 98 I built my first PC and while unable to purchase Win 98 (just wasn’t available) I heard about Linux from a friend of mine. Just out of curiosity, I bought Red Hat 6.5 which was “Mandrake” I installed it and was hooked. It was a long time before I embraced the terminal though but I essentially learned a lot by installing running, poling around in the filesystem and breaking it completely only to have to reinstall it. I went from that to multi-booting Win98/NT/XP along with Mandrake and when Mandrake went through it’s changes and succumed to an agonizing digital death, I had to find another distro and that turned out to be Linux Mint. I had initially tried Ubuntu and wasn’t impressed, didn’t like the colors and it was frustrating because I couldn’t grasp it but starting with Mint (Mint 7) I just enjoyed it so much and that led me to understand Ubuntu a lot better so I used both between the Athlon based “Beast” I built, the print and media server I constructed from older hardware I obtained, the first of two new laptops I bought (one was stolen during a break-in) and a hardware based firewall I constructed using the hardware from the first computer I had built. My DE of choice is MATE and Mint is my primary OS. Currently, I’m testing a Lenovo ThinkCentre M700 which is a Mini computer, and I’ve been running various Linux Distros on it from a flashdrive with Ventoy installed on it. I’ve also been doing the same testing on a Dell Precision T3500. Both of these computers I’ve obtained from work. I embraced the terminal about 15 yrs ago when I was installing some desktop theme packages and had trouble doing so with the mate-appearance-properties window. I’ve been hard on myself for learning so late but I realized that during the period I started with Linux, the user community was not kind and receptive when it came to guiding new users, the system was anything but user-friendly so you pretty much were on your own to sink or swim. I don’t mind teaching, guiding giving advice or learning cause I’m still constantly learning. My apologies for going so long as I’ve got so much to say.

It’s where Johannes Kepler was born and lived before he went off and did much visiting. He is my favourite scientist. There’s a museum in Weil der Stadt in his honour.
