@Jdott, the Canon ImageCLASS MF3010 works great for both black&white printing and scanning. But its an older model, which is now well supported.

You have to be careful about newer models, because the necessary integration drivers aren’t always available, regardless of what CUPS “adherents” may sometimes claim.

The Canon ImageCLASS MF275dw (first made in 2023) or the MF269dw II (first made in 2018) are the current recommended replacements for what I have (first made in 2011).

When you say that, do you mean

  • understanding the elements of an OS’s architecture and how an OS is constructed, in order to gain the skills at building your own non-linux OS, for example a firmware-oriented OS for embedding that in some electo-mechanical appliance?       or

  • understanding the specifics of a Linux-based OS’s internals and how they work, in order to master the selection of its application to a given operational context, judiciously configuring to ensure its proper functional architecture, and correctly optimizing the tunable parameters to maximize performance of its intended role?

Hi @Paradoxicalhume and Welcome to the Linux Community! Perhaps you should set up your own blog! I am sure you’re not in over your head, autistic = brilliant! I love your question: what is actually the Internet, questioning things that others (like me) take for granted is good. For instance, have you come across GridPP (Grid for Particle Physics)? It’s a computational grid (an Internet for algorithms). But in the conventional internet, with AI all over the place, I think we’ll see it morph into something new. The next ten years (as usual) will usher in a new revolution! I hope it will be nice to me.
