I just started the upgrade from Ubuntu mate 26.04 to the development path of what will become Ubuntu MATE 26.10 on my stinkpad T420
I am curious what I will encounter. I’ll keep you posted in this thread

My 26.04 was desnappified and snap is not yet pushed down my throat again.
All in all, I did not yet discover any change.
(which i did not really expect anyway, so early in the cycle)
I can be mistaken but I have the impression that they have partly fixed a bug though:
The dutch date-time notation is now in the correct order everywhere (except on the panel ofcourse 
).
So, nothing really exhilarating yet. But that will come in time I guess.

( The only change I’ve really noticed; is a firefox stub problem, which was resolved yesterday if I recall [timing] accurately; but if your system doesn’t have snapd installed you wouldn’t have even noticed that (that was only error messages whenever apt upgrade/full-upgrade was run anyway & didn’t impact operation in anyway )

Are you talking about the issue where, if we click on ‘Save’ button, the mouse pointer turns to rotating one and keeps rotating and does not save the picture? We can close the application window though. If so, it has been fixed upstream in 1.28.1 release. I can confirm the issue is resolved.
I made packaging effort (still learning). It builds locally but I am stuck in coordination with Debian mate team. The debian-mate team have gitlab repo (salsa) but don’t have MR system; we still have to do everything via email. I sent an email with patches (package upgrade to v1.28.1) but haven’t got any reply. I am not sure if I did everything OK and it is normal to take time or I missed something (procedure-wise I mean, package builds fine).

I have mad respect for you, doing that
Debian is huge and half the world depends on it so I expect that things will take a bit of time. On the other hand I guess there are only a few month ( 4 or something? ) before feature freeze but I can be mistaken. I don’t know how that works within Debian.
I know there is a renewed Ubuntu-MATE team so if debian does not accept the patch, Ubuntu-MATE almost surely wiil.
@guiver : Do you have contacts within Debian or do you have some more background info about how things work over there ?
Nevertheless. So awesome of you for not only making a patch but also to drop a note here that the patch is ready and in the pipeline.
I’m very grateful for both the patch to come and the feedback given and I think I can speak for the rest of the community as well. Thank you so much. This is hugely appreciated

EDIT: You can also reach out to Ubuntu_MATE on launchpad. Since they have their own repository you are not completely dependent on debian accepting it.

@suivue is part of that team (I can’t see emails on this site, so can’t match with credentials on Ubuntu, but I bet I’m correct), and is a HUGE part of the reason we had a successful stonking ISO build I mentioned earlier, ie.
Alas no, and Debian are very email or mailing-list focused as stated. If I want a link on when dates are announced I search my email (tells me facts & when) & provide links from I Challenge Thee etc. Ubuntu releases in April & October for Ubuntu & each cycle is on a predictable pattern (if I guess when something will be, I’ll at worst be a week off), VERSUS when “it’s ready” & decided on mailing-list discussion for Debian.
