Upgrading Ubuntu Mate 26.04 to developement 26.10

I just started the upgrade from Ubuntu mate 26.04 to the development path of what will become Ubuntu MATE 26.10 on my stinkpad T420

I am curious what I will encounter. I’ll keep you posted in this thread

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade
sudo do-release-upgrade -d

Well, that went down as if nothing has happened.
That’s good.

  1. The screenshot function is still broken but who cares, we got flameshot (tnx @hydn  )

  2. The calculator still doesn’t do currency (which I don’t care about anyway)

  3. My 26.04 was desnappified and snap is not yet pushed down my throat again. :+1:

All in all, I did not yet discover any change.
(which i did not really expect anyway, so early in the cycle)

I can be mistaken but I have the impression that they have partly fixed a bug though:
The dutch date-time notation is now in the correct order everywhere (except on the panel ofcourse :innocent:).

So, nothing really exhilarating yet. But that will come in time I guess.

I’ll keep you posted

It’s still very early in the stonking development cycle…

Hey, even release details are wrong; ie. reflecting an early ALPHA product which it is

guiverc@d7050-next:~/uwn/issues/947$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID:	Ubuntu
Description:	Ubuntu Stonking Stringray (development branch)
Release:	26.10
Codename:	stonking

but you’re aware of that, and even provided me a background suitable for it; ie. Ubuntu 26.10 “Stonking Stingray” — Development Snapshot & Key Direction Overview - #6 by tkn

( The only change I’ve really noticed; is a firefox stub problem, which was resolved yesterday if I recall [timing] accurately; but if your system doesn’t have snapd installed you wouldn’t have even noticed that (that was only error messages whenever apt upgrade/full-upgrade was run anyway & didn’t impact operation in anyway )

A new daily ISO may soon be available

this will allow new installs, or just live [QA] testing too…
