Ubuntu MATE 26.10 beta has been released

Why is the logo standard Ubuntu if the release is Ubuntu Mate? I don’t do beta releases, is that standard?

No clue. Testing betas isn’t my thing either but this time I’m thinking about it just because those guys could use all the help they can get.

I’m not sure what logo you’re meaning, but Ubuntu Discourse does use the Ubuntu logo site wide, and the link is to there.

Suivue (@suivue) didn’t put a logo in the announcement, do you really think it needed one?

If you don’t have a spare machine to test it with; you can always just download the ISO/image, write it to thumb-drive, and just run it live or in the ‘try’ mode.

To update the ISO, you can just use zsync to only download the differences and then write that the next day, or actually write the ISO with persistence allowing you to update some of the software on your thumb-drive (though I’ve not done that in years; using just the dailies)

I’ve an old Macbook Air 6,2 (early 2013) with 4gb ram that runs 24.04 reasonably well so I’m going to install on that and see how well if it all the beta runs on that for testing. Otherwise I’ll test using a thumb drive.

Okay I understand it’s the Ubuntu Discourse logo not the Mate logo. I have never used Discourse so didn’t realize that. Thanks for the explanation.

So upgraded my Macbook to 26.04.1 and with 4gb ram it struggles but works. The upgrade on that went well but it’s pretty much a stock install with only two 3rd party ppas to deal with.

MATE 26.10 beta struggles mightily on this machine with the minimal ram. Functional but barely so not really worth the effort to test on the Mac as it really takes an eternity for anything to load. The thumb drive on my Dell Latitude (16gb ram) functions way better so I will “play” with the beta there.
