I’ve gone to the dark side lol. New wallpaper:
Fresh system reinstall this morning. No issues but takes the same time as runnning:
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y
at least when you have not updated in a while.
Now use darkreader.org globally and everything else is dark mode.
The setup is Kali Linux XFCE4 (their default). Once booted in I just ran:
sudo apt install kali-desktop-i3
That also pulls in the i3-dotfiles which include kali-i3’s dotfiles without the iso (prefer xfce4 vanilla install base). Details:
- Kali Linux / Packages / i3-dotfiles · GitLab
- README.md · master · Arszilla / Kali i3 · GitLab
- https://gitlab.com/kalilinux/packages/kali-meta/-/raw/kali/master/debian/control
So used his dotfiles as a base saved hours of config time. Benifit of XFCE4 underneath is being able to use xfce used for power management (xfce4-power-manager and xfce4-screensaver), the lock screen, thunar, thunar-volman, mousepad, ristretto, parole, catfish, xfce4-clipman (actually using greenclip) and dunst (xfce4-notifyd disabled to many after resuming from suspend) for transparent notifications in the top panel, etc.
So a bit of a hybrid xfce-i3wm ![]()
