For me I’m going totally by the amount of nostalgic longing. I miss and enjoyed ICQ the most, then BlackBerry (BES servers and BBM aka: PIN messaging.

Wish I could go back in time and bring those two back to life.

I used kermit for file transfers, does it count?

I actually used Prodigy for several years and for a short time CompuServe.

Eventually those went by the wayside and I was on Netzero and Earthlink for quite a while. My browser of choice back then was Netscape.

Kermit? So they have a website still up or wiki page. Does not ring a bell, maybe if I see it. But don’t think I have heard or used. Cool. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Anyone remembers what “kicks the Llamas ass” ?? :joy:

Usenet Newsgoups???

I miss those for the specialized, focused, universal (a.k.a. single shared forum) for various specialized topics, instead of having to site-hop in order to get the full picture for any given topic now.

Too many channels
=> too much fragmentation
=> little shared experience
=> increased polarization
=> emerging conflict
=> heads knocking together everywhere !!!

I remember ICQ, so many years ago, just don’t remember my number. Then MSN came out and I hated it, but everyone went over there. All of this in the era of dial-up internet :snail: :turtle:

I used to have a few Geocities pages, downloading mp3 through Kazaa, even had a MySpace profile or page or whatever, but it was so ugly that I quickly left it behind.

I remember it was actually “It really whips the llama’s ass” :rofl: :rofl: :llama:

Out of curiosity I searched a few of these in my Gmail account lol:

Time flies!

In 10 or 20 years, will Facebook, Cloudflare, LinkedIn, GitHub, etc. exist only in our email inboxes? :hushed_face:

I used Aim/AOL And ask Jeeves. I was pretty stupid when it came to the Internet, I thought AOL was the Internet. It took me a long time to figure out the AOL browser was just Internet Explorer with a different GUI.

I thought ask Jeeves was a pretty good search engine, better than today, you actually got information instead of advertisements. There were better search options back then too, include words, exclude words, and boolean phrases were all available options.

I didn’t realize it shut down only this year!:

Argg. I feel bad for not visiting it occasionally. It was indeed useful and a great alternative approach at search.

I think the first online service I used was Genie. Maybe I’m too old for this poll.
