Linux95

Next month I’ll publish tiny repo contains the dots for linux95
I’ve also write with the help of some clankers windows run dialog on linux that act as launcher
add some themes & keyset for icewm
pixel art wallpaper with chicago city + natural green
also running libreoffice on the generic graphic means no qt or gtk pure X11
I think win95 old looking is cute (✿◠‿◠)

Out of curiosity, how much performance gain do you get by doing that?

  • 10% ?
  • 30% ?
  • 50% ?
  • more ?

Looking for only a rough estimate?

For reference (4GB RAM) about my CPU,

  • AMD Phenom II X4 810 (64-bit)
inxi -Cxxx

reports the standard benchmark value as

  • 20870 bogomips

which is admittedly quite low!

I absolutely love this look, nostalgic yet practical! I use Chicago95 on the Debian Xfce system that’s hooked up to my TV.

Having been away from Windows since those were the pretty much still the standard around 2006, I have a nightmarish flashback whenever I see views like that or icons from that set!

You MUST publish a crisis-trigger warning for any link that brings those up!

Maybe it’s therapeutic seeing such a UI but with a working operating system underlying it!
