Hey everyone! ![]()

I’m back with another update on Gamma Linux, my independent Linux distribution project from Algeria, built around one simple mission:
“No PC deserves to die.”
Development continues, and I’d love to share what’s coming in the next release, give a preview of the longer-term plans, and get your honest feedback on the official website!
Gamma Linux 2.7.2 — What’s next?
For 2.7.2, the focus is on improving the existing experience rather than introducing unnecessary bloat.
Current priorities include:
- Installation and compatibility: Improving the experience on older hardware, including legacy BIOS systems.
- Clearer downloads: Better edition naming, versioned ISO filenames, and easier-to-find download links.
- Memory optimization: Continuing to refine edition-specific ZRAM configurations.
- Documentation and usability: Making it easier for newcomers to choose the right edition and get started.
The goal is to make Gamma more reliable and accessible while staying true to its lightweight philosophy.
Looking further ahead: Gamma Linux 2.8
The Pro edition is planned for 2.8, alongside some important desktop improvements.
From Enlightenment to Moksha Desktop
I’m planning to move Gamma Legacy from Enlightenment to Moksha Desktop, the desktop environment developed by the Bodhi Linux community.
This transition is being pursued with permission from Robert “ylee” Wiley. I want to express my sincere thanks to Robert and the entire Bodhi Linux team for their work on Moksha and for helping make this direction possible.
Robert, if you’re reading this, I’m wishing you a full and speedy recovery. ![]()
Open-source projects thrive because people share their work, knowledge, and time. Gamma builds on that spirit, and I want to acknowledge the people whose work makes it possible.
A refreshed visual identity
The transition is also an opportunity to improve Gamma’s appearance:
- Refined existing themes.
- New themes to give users more visual choices.
- A more consistent desktop experience.
- A balance between visual polish, responsiveness, and lightweight performance.
Gamma Pro
The Pro edition is planned for 2.8, with a more complete desktop experience based on KDE Plasma.
The intention is to offer a different choice for users who want more desktop features, while keeping Gamma’s lightweight editions focused on older hardware.
These are roadmap goals, and details may evolve as development and testing progress.
I’d love your feedback on the official website!
I’ve recently updated the official website with live project statistics and a counter that retrieves Gamma’s DistroWatch waiting-list votes.

Could you take a look and share your honest opinion?
- Does the website look professional and trustworthy?
- Are the editions and their hardware requirements easy to understand?
- Are the download links and release information clear?
- How does the website perform on mobile?
- What would you change, remove, or add?
Constructive criticism is especially welcome. I want the website to be useful to actual users, not just visually appealing.
Let’s talk!
If you’ve tested Gamma, I’d love to hear about your hardware, installation experience, and any bugs you’ve encountered.
If you haven’t tried it, your feedback on the website, roadmap, and overall presentation is equally valuable.
Gamma is a small independent project, and community feedback can make a real difference in its direction.
Thank you to everyone supporting independent Linux distributions, to the Bodhi Linux team for their work, and to everyone helping keep older computers useful.
