I want to get into Linux gaming but I am not sure which Distro to go for. I’ve heard different things about different Distros; Bazzite, Calyx, Nobara, etc. I just wanna know which one is the overall best for game performance/speed & quality. I don’t prefer one over the other, but if you twisted my arm I guess performance is a little more important to me.
For raw performance I’d go with Nobara. It’s Fedora with all the gaming parts added back in - optimized kernel, updated drivers and out of the box support for Proton, Lutris and various performance patches. The community is solid and feedback is for great gaming performance and fewer headaches.
CachyOS is another distro you’ll see mentioned around here and it’s similar to Nobara in that it has performance tweaks and a tuned kernel. But Nobara is slightly simpler and more plug and play. It’s Arch based.
Btw Garuda Linux is also worth a look - it’s also Arch based, performant and gaming friendly. But if simplicity matters as much as performance then Nobara is still the winner.
