Which distribution is best for gaming and doesn’t drop the FPS like most do?
Welcome to the forums @Brembo ![]()
I can’t really tell you from experience because I’m still tied to dual boot. But from what I’ve collected via user feedback the top 3 options are:
Some light overview: Nobara, Bazzite, and Fedora.
I know thats not very helpful, but hopefully it gives you some ideas to search. If you do find your “best for gaming” choice, feel free to share with us! ![]()

Hi @Brembo and welcome to our community!
TL;DR: My current recommendation is CachyOS with the Bore scheduler. More below…
The two distributions that I’ve gamed on have been Zorin and CachyOS. With Zorin out of the box, I had good performance but did have some FPS drops here and there. I ended up using the Liquorix kernel and that improved my FPS and performance significantly. That being said, when I updated to Zorin 18, the Liquorix kernel seemed to cause a lot of instability on my system, mostly seeing freezes and complete hangups of the system requiring a hard restart.
I really don’t think that is Zorin or Liquorix’s fault as my upgrade from Zorin 17 to Zorin 18 didn’t go well either, so I think this is mostly due to my errors, but I wanted to mention it just in case.
I am currently on CachyOS and out of the box it ran better than Zorin did out of the box. I have decided to use CachyOS’s bore scheduler, which you can read more about at that link. The overall performance of my device and gaming in general is outstanding.
Some people may not like or want a rolling release style distro, but my experience has had absolutely zero issues with updates. There is only one exception. As I’m using KDE, I like an app called PlasmaZones, and it seems that it doesn’t release updates at the same speed, so often that app breaks on one update and fixes itself on another.
@hydn’s other recommendations seem very stable and also are popular choices so I don’t think you could go wrong with any of those suggestions.
Let us know what you end up choosing!
