I am not good at plying computer games, but I saw people doing that. Based on my observation, here are my recommendations: Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing and Unpacking
These games provides relaxation and includes creativity

Can you be a bit more specific? Like what are your interests outside of gaming? Cars, board games, sci-fi, what type of books do you read… fantasy, crime, other?

I’m older and I enjoy openarena.

@olivia11 yes as @hydn stated could you be more specific on the games or if they will be played on PC or if your lookin more into a handheld or console type of games

Olivia11 one first needs to tell us what their hardware and operating systems are. Steam is the place for them to checkout PC games and see what they like and their PCs can play.
For free Linux games, there are Micropolis [the original name for Sim city and a very primitive version of it], Cube 2: Sauterbraten [a first person shooter either played with others or with bots. The free for all game has bots equal to the average player and the normal campaigns are standard puzzle, survival terror and fighting. I first played it when my sister was dying as a distraction. When played against real people or the better bots it had the added benefit of strengthening my eyes because of all the quick adjustments in it], 0 A.D. is a standard build a civilization up and fight for survival game with the twist that it’s cultures are all real cultures with the costumes and settings fairly realistic], Freecol [ a country building game set in age of colonization of the New World. It’s more simple and is based on Sid Meyers Colonization game; though better than it.].

I am a fan of LTris, a Tetris clone.

For me, it’s Arc Raiders (I’ve banned myself from it for the past 2 months. So intoxicatingly addictive:

2nd is Squad, much easier to play one 30 to 40-minute match and hop off in less than an hour:

Hmm, the next game I’ve spent hours on but probably 6 or 7 years ago was Motorsport Manager PC:

You can see that the top review is by an “80 yr old exdev in the data mining arena.” It gets technical in regards to extracting performance.

None of these games require fast reflexes, they feature one or all of these: problem-solving, teamwork and strategy.

Notable mention: https://igpmanager.com/ but I think this was PC and mobile only. I used to have a weekly race I would log into and play with my cousins a while back.

The only game I have ever had on my computer:

KDE KPatience

It will stay that way too.

@Jymm Yes, this was my Dad for years. Then he switched to Hearts card game online, for years, then finally Ludo King which he would play with my sister and I online. Good memories.

I would suggest “Portal”

It is a somewhat older puzzle game (first person perspective) that requires you to think out of the box. It is not easy to describe but this video explains it perfectly:

also:

  1. The hardware requirements are pretty low
  2. It is available on ‘steam’ , runs on steamdeck so it will run on linux
(probably via wine, lutris, proton or any other compatibility layer)
  3. it does not break the bank and has a high replayability value

IMHO Gnome games or KDE games may be a good start to give it a try and find out something interesting within simple arcades, puzzles and board games.
