Are you a Registered Linux User?

A very long time ago I remember there were Linux users that registered themselves on some site that gave them a registration number, something like Registered Linux User #56552 or whatever.

I still remember seeing this on forums, old forums long before Discourse was even a thing, on other forum software, where you could attach a signature to your posts, some people used to post their registered linux user number, kind of as a badge. I still see that on forums that run on more traditional forum software like vBulletin or phpBB, like Linux Mint forums, or years ago on the old (and now dead) Ubuntu forums, that ran on vBulletin I think.

Searching around, I found this Wikipedia entry.

Do you guys remember this “registered linux user” thing?

I remember I did attempt to register 15 years ago or so, through a Hotmail account I had back then, but never was able to do it because of Hotmail’s spam filters rejecting whatever email confirmation.

Yes, I remember, back in the 1990s, I eagerly added every Linux box I was admin on.

Good times.
