Hi there!

I am on Linux since 7 or so years. Hopped a lot, stayed on Fedora Kinoite for over a year, now switched to NixOS.

Linux is my hobby so I would like to help people if I can

May I ask …

  • how long have you had NixOS as your primary desktop ?

  • what is the estimation of how complete your migration … of old functionality to NixOS … is ?

  • how confident do you feel about your mastery of the admin and customization tasks for NixOS ?

  • is strong familiarity with Debian-based distros a facilitator … or a hindrance … in approaching the migration to NixOS ?

My questions are motivated by an interest in possibly adopting NixOS, because of the “functional-specification” approach, but fear that such an approach

  • would involve too esoteric a “specification language”, or

  • would possibly not give the necessary fine control.

Would you care to share any opinion on that possible issue?

Hi I´m Bobsa57 from Sweden, first started with linux in 1994, on Mandrake. Now running Ubuntu Mate, because I´m hooked on old gnome 2. But I know the most distros, apart from Mate i really like KDE on Neon. Before I was running Mate on debian but I want modern computer under the hood and old things on the desktop so thats Ubuntu Mate, new and old. Also Running Windows 11 on another laptop with Linux Subsystem with Kali and XFCE. Have a nice day!

Hi, David here, I am very new to Linux (Ubuntu) and I am loving it not only because it is giving our very old PCs a new lease of life but, Ubuntu is getting my brain active again (at 74 it needs help). There have been challenges along the way but with the help of the community those problems are soon solved.
