Thank you for giving me the opportunity to join this community! It is great being a part of
the Linux family. I started my journey in 1996 with Slackware and still have the floppies in
my collection of distro CD’s! I am looking forward to some fun dialogs.

@richd Welcome to the forum! I also started my Linux journey with Slackware, perhaps just a few months before you in late 1995, though I have been a past Unix user since 1982 and I joined a Unix organization in 1995. A few people who ironically attended the same university as I did were chatting about Linux software and I had been looking into it already; their conversation and mention of Slackware sent me out looking for both hardware and software; when I found a suitable combination I bought the first PC I had for my own personal use.
As for CDs, DVDs and USB Flash Drives, though I haven’t kept all of them, I still have quite a collection and I’ve pulled out old ones a few times; some work, some won’t work at all even on my oldest system.

Ironically, in 1995 I was inadvertently caught in a Windows 95 local commercial! I started my career on a pdp11 in 1981. Writing in cobol for a jewelry manufacturing company, RT-11 os.
I then got involved with a local Unix group at our local university ,and other than having to use Macintoshes because of the company I worked for , never looked back.

Thanks, Brian. RTE in particular is from HP, acronym for ‘Real Time Executive’, a direct successor of another HP product named DOS for ‘Disk Operating System’ -we are talking 80’s and I believed that the world was a tiny place back then… No relation with MS-DOS or PC-DOS that I recall…

¡Hola, Carlos!

Hello, Carlos!

I speak/write a bit of Spanish (High-School Grade 10 & 11), but it is very rusty.

You will find that most communication on this site uses English as the “Lingua Franca”.

You will likely get more responses to your inquiries if you use something like Google Translate (which I used here) to translate your comments to English, then you can review that text to modify it to ensure it is giving the proper interpretation for what you are asking or describing.

Hope that approach is OK for you.

Welcome to the Community! We are stronger when we come from a wider range of societal experiences!

Hi Simon from Germany. Was first interested in Kali Distro for Security reasons. Then bought a macBook an asked myself why there is such a performance gap between my macBook and my waaaay overpowered WinOS. So I chose to update my Win to a Linux.

cheers Simon
