Welcome! Introduce yourself

I totally support! I do this regularly for products I want to see continue and grow. I’ve never been against paying for software, I just never wanted it to own me.

Right now I’m working on a fair few certifications. None are strictly Linux, but they’re all security related. I’m concentrating on Pentest+ for the moment though I keep finding fun things to explore and keep setting asside the actual studying.

I’ve been mainly working in Kali and Parrot so far but have also tried quite a few others over the years: Alma, Rocky, Fedora, FreeBSD, Yellow Dog, Knoppix, etc.

@h.lyngaard I send greetings and a warm welcome to our forum. Hey, we’ve got an openSUSE user here! I’ve used openSUSE many times, but it isn’t installed on any of my systems at the present time. Have you ever used Tumbleweed, or do you generally stick with the solid Leap approach when you’re using openSUSE?

@Brian_Masinick I can’t say that I have no. I mainly stuck with Leap, seeing as that’s basically the same as SLES core/binary wise etc. So made the most sense using that to learn the maintenance on SLES.. Both runs purely CLI based with no UI as well..

Welcome to the community @tslade77, nice to meet you! :handshake:

Hello! I have been using linux for 14 years: I started with CentOS. Later I switched to Ubuntu MATE 20.04 and have been a faithful adherent of the MATE desktop ever since.
I’m a former member of the Ubuntu MATE community forum, although I’ve slightly modified my user name for this forum. I see that many old friends have joined the MATE Companions. It will be good to work with all of you again.

Hi @DeanHighland thanks for joining us. MATE desktop has such a loyal and supportive userbase. At times those are important components of deciding the DE or WM that one selects to adopt long-term.

At least you kept the “Highland” part
Good to see you here. You will notice it has the same relaxed vibe as our old site, and then some. Welcome home again !

Hi. My name is Seth and I’m from Sweden. What drew me here was mainly the offer of “100+ Linux Commands” pdf file. So, I joined.

I’m on Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.3 and I’ve been using it since Sept - Oct 2025, just when Microsoft decided to screw us Win 10 users over by not delivering security updates anymore and (try to) force us to upgrade to Win 11 and/or buy a whole new computer. I’ve tried Linux (Ubuntu and some Tails) before but just in a live environment, so when I found Linux Mint the decision to move to it was fairly simple.

I do not regret this decision a bit, and even though I still have Windows 10 available in a dual boot setup I find myself never using that crap (anymore).

Welcome to the community @SethP

Really appreciate that feedback. That doc has been 10 years in the making, the first versions were a bit laughable to be honest. So to this day I do wonder if it’s really useful/helpful and not gimmicky.

Mint Cinnamon is a SOLID choice. I think Mint is one of those distros that just about all of us have used at some point, but a massive amount of active users.

Yes! Coming from Winblows it was a pretty obvious choice. And I really like the simplicity of Mint, but also that I can tweak (?) it a bit to my liking.

Are you the author of the 100+ pdf? (Oh, now I see that you are.) If so I should get back to you when I’ve read it, I guess. But thanx in advance!

Really? It’s been around for a long time. A couple decades, from what I remember. I love it too, sounds great, right? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I sure didn’t invent the word. I saw it somewhere and just thought it was appropriate.
