@Bluwden Welcome to linuxcommunity! Quite a few retirees around, so let us know if you need any help.

I also had a go with Suse Linux years ago, but I didn’t keep it installed for long either. I switched to it as I was getting bored with Ubuntu, and I think that was the start of a long distro-hopping period for me.

To be honest (and I know it’s easy to say) but I think switching to a new distro is quite easy these days. There’s lots of ways of dual booting but Micro$oft do make it tricky sometimes. Linux will always ask before it overwrites your disk, but if you ever try to restore Windows it just assumes it can do what it wants wherever it likes. I know this from first hand experience!

If you’re unsure, a very safe way is to put Linux on a dedicated disk (not a partition). I used to physically unplug the disk I wanted to preserve so that there could be no doubt about which one was going to get reformatted. You can then install a boot-manager if using the BIOS is too cumbersome.

Hi all,
I’m Ayhan from Türkiye. I am so excited to be finally here among you guys since I had been thinking of switching to Linux for quite a long time up until now. I remember like yesterday that after using MS-DOS for 4 or 5 years switching to Windows was a blast for me. And from that moment on I have always been a solid user of windows for over 30 years and I never thought of using any other OS until recent years. However, now that Windows today is far from that Windows 3.1 in terms of privacy and innocence, it is a necessity imho to let go of it altogether and switch to an OS environment that feels much more secure and safe. That’s why I am here today. I hope I can learn a lot from you and find a suitable distro here with the help of you guys.

@xindaar Hi Ayhan! Welcome to the forums! I’ve never been to Türkiye but I’ve been thinking about riding there for a while. Which part are you from?

… and I do remember Windows 3.1! Did you ever play with DR-DOS?
