For users and developers of the MATE Desktop environment, and based on the principle of “L’union fait la force!”, this group is intended to be a forum for the sharing, asking questions, discussion, and offering solutions regarding any and all aspects of that environment, regardless of the underlying Operationg System or distribution (a.k.a. distro-agnostic).
We expect the tone of discussions to be civil. Superlatives don’t much fit such discussions. Opinions should be experienced-based, hopefully supported by concrete examples or specific references.
To make this forum as useful as possible, it is requested that the subject for any new discussion be as specific and clear about the related Topic as possible, along with a suitably limited number of selections for Tags and Category as applies. Those will allow the interested volunteers to quickly triage the items where they feel they can most readily render assistance!
As everyone knows, software version is always relevant to context, so, to avoid ambiguity related to possible software updates or bug reports, please include
- MATE Desktop release/version
- OS release/version
- Kernel release/version (if not default for the OS release/version)
The Group is also intended to accomodate what would be termed “organic evolution” of discussion topics. However, when prompted by the “Moderator”, it is expected that the topic be “migrated” or “re-started” under its own heading to minimize any perceived trend toward confusion of discussion focus, especially when the original topic has not yet been acknowledged as resolved.
To the purpose of this last point, it would be much appreciated by everyone, I am sure, if the OP’s (Original Poster’s) issue is resolved, to acknowledge the contributor of the most-relevant response with the marking of the Solution checkbox, which also flags to other volunteers that there is no further need to review that posting for assistance.
Our hope is that we can keep it as much of a “hands-off” experience as possible, except for when truly objectionable behaviour has been demonstrated! “Inappropriate” behaviour towards others (or the Group) will incur a single warning before being banned! “Grossly inappropriate” behaviour will be deemed sufficient for being immediately, and permanently, banned! So you are asked at the outset to please … weigh your words carefully … before “committing to page” anything that might fall into those two classes of behaviour!
Thank you for making the effort to comply with these guidelines, in order to make this forum as workable and useful as possible for all MATE Users, Companions all!
