Rustdesk Server

Hi,
does anyone have a rustdesk server running and would share their configuration with me?

Specifically how the clients are configured.

@toadie this is the first time hearing of Rustdesk. I have looked for solutions like this previously and didnā€™t come across this. Sorry I canā€™t help. But thanks also! :sunglasses:

I too have heard of rustdesk when I was looking for an alternative to any desk, but I never installed it.

Small update.
Server is running and working, a few test clients also ran successfully.
Tomorrow the enrollment for ~100 clients will start.
I am very curious to see how RustDesk proves itself in practice for the IT staff.

At the end I can write a short tutorial on how to get a RustDesk server up and running.

Sounds good! If you get around to that, we will add it to the Community Picks and if there are any screenshots and if long enough for an article then also the blog front page as a guest post.

Well looks like I might try out rustdesk sooner than later.

I had the remote connection to a Ubuntu VM severed and it was left in a state where I couldnā€™t get back on. I am using xrdp on that VM and because the user was left logged in, I couldnā€™t login.

I saw this news item https://www.xda-developers.com/i-use-rustdesk-instead-of-teamviewer-or-chrome-remote-desktop/ and thought of this topic.

So far I can only say good things about Rustdesk.
There are no connection limits, MFA is possible, chat, voicecall and session recording are all included.

Looks like you got through this already: I am using RustDesk also, and love it.

Both for Linux and for Windows machines.

Rarely need it, but when I do, itā€™s great to have. And self-hosted.

Works also on Android very good. Just a very good piece of Software

Keep in mind that all the mobile implementations are for login to desktops

I wanted them to allow remote control of the mobile device, but alas they do not

Being honest, I have not audited the code myself, and I somewhat fear what I might find. Unfounded/perpetually-wary stance, but it is worth looking into fully

I agree it has been a JOY to host ( with a docker container ) and its resource utilization is pretty much non-existent. It just works. And you can preconfigure all the things for the most part ( for the Windows side ) by naming the executable a certain way ( with the server and appropriate key )

I remember dealing with other ā€˜solutionsā€™ and it just made life horrible to fuss with a tool to then have to enter a system and fuss with another beingā€™s mental mess on top of that. Rarely do you find zen gardens via Remote Desktop

I am dropping support for Windows and after the next release of software, planning to do all remote work by CLI/SSH and then reconsider a code auditā€¦ but for other support providers who do hand-holding ( on Linux GUI only )

Windows is too much of a psychological mess now. The ā€œSwiss Cheeseā€ minds that come out of that environment make any amount of support completely worthless. Sad but true, and easy to see coming since the 2000s
