Plaid - A new tiling window manager extension for Gnome 50+

Greetings all,
I’ve been a GNOME user for years — Adwaita, GNOME Circle apps, the GNOME simplicity has always attracted me. But a tiling workflow is my choice for getting work done. I moved to Hyprland, then Niri (both outstanding projects), but I missed GNOME. And the current state of tiling extensions doesn’t satisfy. So I decided to correct this.

It’s live on Github.

Plaid is loaded with tiling features and “Flair” — all the things that make computing fun. Per-workspace layouts, blur, rounded corners, animated gradient borders, a drop-down terminal, video backgrounds, and more.

Built for GNOME 50 (Wayland). Grab the latest from the Releases page.

I have tested extensively on my box, and it is a stable and enjoyable experience. I have not tested multi-monitor or laptops — reports from those setups are especially welcome.

Welcome to our community @Plyply Awesome project! Gnome thrives on extensions like these. Previously I used Forge which got buggy and slow to update when Gnome has new versions. Before that I used POP!_OS Shell. Cosmic took over from that.

So this looks like a good niche for those still rocking Gnome. I’ve starred it, just in case I’m on Gnome again in the future.

I used Forge, PaperWM, Pop and quite a few others. If you come back to Gnome please give it a try. I welcome criticism and improvements.
