Midnight Commander for Linux

Most of my servers are headless systems so, most of the time, I am just at the terminal – and that’s okay. But sometimes, I like having a better view of things.

mc is a TUI app – mc for “Midnight Commander”; the same Midnight Commander you may have used on old Windows systems. It is very handy for getting a graphic view of directories and files.

It is both arrow key and mouse aware for navigation. Just move the highlight to the line (or mouse to it) and press enter (or double-click). Most of the time, the terminal is fine. But once in a while…

I remember mc from ~30 years ago.
it was built in 1994.
Back then when gui did not exist.

@pavlos You’re absolutely right. I remember it back in the days of DOS, as well. In '94, Windows 3.1 had only been out a year or so but I’d already moved to that from pure DOS. These days, while I like having a gui for most things, I find myself at the terminal a lot. What goes around comes around.
