Funny thing is, the 2 finalists are actually what I used and I switched to the winner a year ago
Welcome to the community @Pingu, nice to meet you! ![]()
Thanks for the feedback @Pingu and welcome to the forums!
The game is still a work in progress, although itâs fun, a LOT of thought has gone into it, 20 years of data used. Once the eight questions are answered honestly, it should generally recommend a distro that genuinely matches you. Whether itâs one youâre already using, one youâre interested in, or one thatâs simply the best fit for your needs but you havenât discovered yet. Any of the top 3 distros or DEs recommended at the end, are strong choices.
If you have any other suggestions or run into any issues, feel free to leave additional feedback. Also, take a look around the forums while youâre here.
Hello,
I think Iâve encountered a bug. I have four systems rebuilding in campaign mode and canât start a new one from scratch. I can only click on âto the reckoningâ and then I get the pop-up that tells me âA rebuild slot frees in 23h 28m. Until then: send back in a fighter thatâs already rebuilt (one of your cooling systems), or take the long road â start a fresh distro from the beginning.â
But there doesnât seem to be a way to actually do the latterâŠ

@kyoforkshomebrews welcome to our community! Let me look into this. I will reply today with an update.
Thanks so much for making this Hayden! Itâs super fun to play, and gives genuinely good suggestions.
Iâm very interested to know if this project is open-source/self-hostable. My universityâs Linux Society is looking to have a similar offering at an upcoming event, so it would be awesome if we could fork it to make tweaks that make it more-ideal for the kind of environment the event will be running in (we want participants to be able to complete it in at most a couple of minutes). We also want to display stats specifically for our event only.
Iâd love if we can get a link to the source code. Perhaps we can even pull request our contributions back to you if they end up matching your vision as well as ours!

Thanks, Iâm really glad youâre enjoying it and that itâs giving you good recommendations. ![]()
Open sourcing it is the goal eventually. The engine behind it is something I actually built almost ten years ago. Iâve only started putting it to work publicly over the last year or two, but itâs built on years of private refinement and experimentation.
Itâs still very much a work in progress. The only real difference now is that itâs being used publicly through a fun game.
Note the aggregate data is public. The stats page is really where the project is most open today. It becomes a useful resource in its own right, showing how people answer the questions and how those answers influence recommendations.
Another project of mine is dewedda.com, which collects weather data every five minutes. The main difference being that the data is only from geolocations for now. But in the same way the data is all published in multiple ways to be useful to anyone.
Thanks again for taking the time to add feedback. Feel free to send me a direct message (dm) here if you have any additional questions or requests. Happy to help!!
Fair fair, unfortunate that itâs not open-source yet (although I am excited for the future!)
I feel like I should offer a small correction: Slackware does not ship with (as listed) âGNOME, Cinnamon, MATE, Budgie, LXQt, i3wm, Sway, Hyprland, Openbox, COSMIC, Deepin, awesome, Qtile, Pantheonâ. While these can be installed manually, of the options listed Slackware only ships Xfce and KDE; it also ships WindowMaker (nearly featureful enough to qualify as a DE on its own!) as well as Fluxbox, Blackbox, and FVWM2.
