Hi folks - I’m a newbie here (at the grand age of 70), but I’ve been using Linux as my daily OS for the last 15 years or so. I’ve tried everything from Arch to Debian, but find that I always settle back to Mint as I just love the stability and the Cinnamon desktop. This doesn’t stop me from exploring other distro’s all the time however. I will just say that while I know my way round tech generally, I’ve never been a command line or terminal user.

Welcome, woodrat!
When you say “invite” are you referencing one of the posts on other sites inviting those with interest to join the host-agnostic MATE Companions here? If so, may I ask from which one?
So far, I’ve posted on
Hi everyone I’m arnldmnts. I’m a lowly desktop support technician. I want to stop supporting and instead creating systems or applications that people can use. I thought the best way to do that is by learning LInux. I’ll also be exploring how tech works down to its basic form. Hopefully I can work on some projects that benefit myself and others.

Hi everyone, thanks for having me.
I’m John, an independent artist, musician, and digital micro-publisher based in Ontario. I do a bit of everything—from hard rock music production and writing to 3D engineering for geodesic structures.
My draw to Linux stems from a focus on digital sovereignty and the raw control it offers over my environment. I primarily run Lubuntu and Ubuntu, using them to manage high-capacity storage, run my publishing workflows, and experiment with AI tools. Most recently, I’ve been deep in the weeds configuring OpenVPN TCP routing and custom network tables for secure, high-load data transfers.
Looking forward to connecting with you all and sharing knowledge!

If you mean that you hope to offer Canada-based servers as hosting platforms … YES! Do it!
Not enough of those that are within our own borders! … and in case you didn’t get the hint … go Canada! ![]()
