Tree fell on my internet

Tangential to Homelab… but, had my internet totally killed by my neighbor when they let a falling branch (tree trimming) fall on and break the fiber going to my house. Took multiple days, and three or four AT&T Techs to fix everything and finally get the figer rerouted to be closer to my house (less fiber out there to get damaged). Fun times.

Oof, that sounds like a nightmare! It’s crazy how something as simple as tree trimming can cause such chaos. At least it sounds like the rerouting might help avoid future issues, though dealing with multiple tech visits is never fun.

Hope you’re back online and the home lab runs smoothly. Maybe time for some ISP redundancy just in case? Starlink, LTE backup, etc.

i would have a problem. i wouldn’t be able to work at all…
in germany, no data lines are allowed to be openly accessible or run across roads etc. here, everything is laid underground

Were you able to fully resolve these issues?

It actually didn’t sound like anything as it didn’t make a sound

you should have post a picture of the scene

I wish… before the outage and repair, my fiber traveled over 100’ through two neighbors properties. I had no access to the point where the break/damage occurred.

They eventually reconnected me to a much closer delivery point/drop… Where it should have been connected in the first place, the utility pole in my yard. Had to work with Customer Support to keep another Tech from disconnecting me again!
