It’s the UM Discourse reborn.
Greetings and salutations
I can’t change my avatar just yet, but I assure you this is me.

Hopefully between here and the official Ubuntu Discourse I will be seeing lots of familiar avatars soon.
@hydn Thank you for setting this up. It is much appreciated.
I really hope between the 2 new homes we have, that we can keep the community spirit that was developed over on the Ubuntu MATE Community Discourse.
That is a familiar face!.. Also from myself, @hydn Thank you for your effort , it is much appreciated. ![]()
Hello everyone,
I am here too (Jaymo)! I cannot change my icon yet but I understand it is because I created my account minutes ago.
I am both here and on Ubuntu.
Glad to see many familiar names here! ![]()
Welcome, @jaymo_chicago
to the MATE Desktop!
@hydn can help you with your avatar!
Thanks, I now have this functionality.
Does anyone know how I can add the “MATE Logo” beside my profile picture similar to John @Bombilla ?
Go to your profile preference en select: Flair
Kernel-member and select on MATE.
I think I found @Jymm ![]()
Yeah, I have seen him.
Yes that is my old dog Charlie and I sometimes switch my avatar to my current dog Hunter. Both Brittany spaniels. Oddly as different as two dogs of the same breed can be.
Haha I can relate.
Here’s our lil’ guy Mishu:
He likes to growl when it’s time to wake up or try to bite your ankles the few times you have to leave home without him.
I’ve thought about how to respond here a few times, and I’ll try again.
Ubuntu MATE community [Discourse] catered for both Ubuntu MATE users (using supported Ubuntu releases), AND anyone using the MATE desktop regardless of whether their release was EOL/EOSS or a non-Ubuntu.
To me the Ubuntu MATE community [Discourse] home is being migrated to Ubuntu Discourse, and I am aware of the various requests, discussions about that which have occurred over what to me feels a somewhat longish time.
Of course I realize the Ubuntu Discourse is a different site; with a different history (since 2017), but that just is.
Ubuntu Discourse can only be used for support by those using supported releases of Ubuntu (not ESM either, as Canonical supports that on other sites chosen when you select your support mechanism) and not MATE users of non-Ubuntu systems, where the Ubuntu MATE Community Discourse allowed anyone using the MATE desktop.
Ubuntu Discourse does allow MATE discussions in its Lounge, but that area is not for support.
I’m very glad users of Ubuntu MATE Discourse (how I think of the old site) have an alternate home for those that don’t feel ‘at home’ on Ubuntu Discourse though, such as those wanting to use unsupported releases of Ubuntu or just non-Ubuntu systems
I’m thankful with how @hydn has welcomed the group in, and having looked around, I’m impressed with this site. A home for those using MATE regardless of system, but for supported releases of Ubuntu MATE to me the replacement is still Ubuntu Discourse.
(Most will know this, I am still (for a few more days) a moderator on Ubuntu MATE [Community] Discourse, Ubuntu Discourse (a community moderator) and have some other team associations that have made me aware of some details that aren’t general public knowledge. The Ubuntu MATE [team] have a couple of community moderators over at Ubuntu Discourse; ie. I’m not alone!
Mine barks like crazy, sounds like he will tear your throat out, jumps on you and all because he wants is the person to pet him. He scares the heck out of people and your only worry about him is me might lick you near to death.
Really appreciate you taking the time to lay all of that out so clearly. It’s the side of Linux we love; how much you and others care about the MATE community and the history behind it, and that kind of passion is exactly what makes a project like this last as long as it will. Long live MATE!
Whatever that is Linux-related brings people here, they’re welcome. And for those who find this a comfortable place to land, we’re glad to have them.
I’ve already made so many great connections here including in our @kernel-member and @moderators. I’m sure I speak along with everyone in welcoming you guys! ![]()
This place isn’t the busiest forum always, but we have always stuck to our Code of Conduct and rules and done our very best to keep this community a relaxed space.
Where members of all ranges of experience don’t have to be worried about being told things like, “That’s been posted already!”, “Did you use search!?”, “Why would you even want to try that…[insert support request here]”, etc, etc.
Basically a bunch of the bad forum habits I’ve observed since the early 2000’s. None of which I’ve noticed with you @MATE gentlemen.
Thanks for joining us here, there are many options, we are honored.
