Imo, Brother had been really good for including linux drivers on their website in .deb format as well (and have been one of the most reliable) so i do suggest you take a look at them too.

I loved HP’s Linux support but had nothing but trouble with their printers. I would put in a new HP cartridge and it would tell me it wasn’t HP and wouldn’t accept it. Then it would clean the heads until the cartridge was almost empty before I could print.
I switched to Brother which has good Linux support and have never had another problem.
I will say I will buy either an ink tank printer or black only (toner) printer next time. The price of ink cartridges is getting ridiculous. I almost never print color but the color gets used up keeping the heads from drying out.

I mean if you like HP and want an ink tank based printer, HP has been relentlessly marketing the SmartTank where i live.
I havent tried it but i am considering it.

As I said I will probably go with a toner cartridge black only when this one is shot. No need for color and the whole print your own photos is a bust in my opinion.
To expensive and the photos don’t last. You are better off taking them to a drug store on a USB and letting them print your photos.

I’m also looking for a new Laser Printer that integrates into Linux. Some days ago I bought the “HP Color Laser MFP 178nwg”. It worked via USB on my PC with Fedora 44 installed, but I didn’t get it to work with my WLAN. It wasn’t possible to connect the printer. So I had to send it back.
That’s why I’m still looking for a new Laser Printer.

After seeing the poor quality of colours for home printers of any make, I have chosen to limit myself to plain black-ink Laser Printers.
As @Jymm said earlier, better to take a disk or USB stick to either a pharmacy or a big-name retailer who has the Kodak or Canon photo printers in their media section.

I’m using my Samsung Colour Laser Printer since 2014. I never wanted to print out photos. Just wanted the possibility to print out coloured documents. My kids used to print out a lot of school documents in Corona time. For me the quality of printed documents was more than fine. So, I see no reason to not buy a new Colour Laser Printer again.

My local library has a photo quality printer and it costs nothing to use it but…there’s only the one and there can be a line!
