How hard is it to get linux to work with a Modern CPU ,GPU

how hard is it to get Linux desktop environments to work with something like a GeForce RTX 4080 super and a Ryzen 7950x3d?Is this doable by reading a great deal through online forums or is the Set up process easy to get through?

Hello @Wayofthelao82 welcome to the community. :handshake:

Setting up Linux with a GeForce RTX 4080 Super and Ryzen 7 is really easy and will mostly just require some tweaks for perfection:

  1. NVIDIA Drivers: For best performance, you will want to install the proprietary NVIDIA drivers instead of defaulting to the nouveau driver. Ubuntu, Fedora, and Arch make this pretty easy, though the latest kernel versions help smooth out support.
  2. Ryzen Support: The Ryzen 7 does well on newer kernels, 5.19+. Given AMD’s open-source support in general, things generally work quite well; peak performance may take some manual tweaks. Use TLP for power and cooling management.
  3. Desktop Environment Compatibility: Generally speaking, KDE, GNOME, and the rest do work with NVIDIA…
  4. Wayland vs. X11: Generally speaking, X11 tends to run better with NVIDIA, but with recent drivers, Wayland works good enough.

If you are familiar with both forums and wikis, this setup should be workable.

Arch has excellent Nvidia Wiki.

@Wayofthelao82 You could try install POP!_OS, it’s very user friendly, and also on System76 website there’s a dedicated iso with preinstalled Nvidia driver. Your RTX 4080 should work flawless with it.
