I use ChatGPT for 9/10 searches/research now. Here’s a good example of why:
Google search
Results are all questions, no answer!
vs.
ChatGPT
instant answer without any additional clicking around.

It depends;
I tent to use both, I mean, for my experience you can start asking a question to Chat GPT, but if the question is too specific it starts to having some allucinations and saying you some wrong things.
For example last sunday I tried to ask Chat GPT some C++ VCL specific behaviour and it start going crazy, he was not able to give me the solution. I asked google and I discovered that thing I had in mind it was not possible, while Chat GPT was continously sayin me “do this!” “oh no, do that!” , “sorry I was wrong do this!”, “ah no, you can’t do that, do this”, “sorry you have to do that” and go on.
For another example for some github research google is working very great, if you have some issue on a specific OSS software you can try to search “software name - github” on google, mostly of times you can get great results.
Another example is if you need to find some new OSS you might want to try and use you can try search “software purpose - github” on google and as I was succesful yesterday, you can have great results.
In other hands if you have some specific software requests or some algorithm you have in mind you can try ask Chat GPT: “I have this on mind. How I can implement and customize it?” Chat GPT is more specific and will give you more detailed informations, mostly of times with an example in pseudo-code.
For generic ask, like opened market in thanksgiving day yes I am agree with you @hydn, Chat GPT is less commercial and it will give you the informations you need without sponsoring some markets (until now! )
In conclusion I use both google and Chat GPT, I think they are some complemental instruments, if you can’t have the answer in one you can try obtain answer in second.
