Don’t like the snap packages? Here’s the step by step guide shows how to completely remove and block them in Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.
I would never remove Snap from Ubuntu. Don’t know what happens then in the background. When I was a Snap hater, I wouldn’t install Ubuntu. ![]()
snap has grown on me. lol. Very limited use but nice to just have there.
Fully agree. Snap is deeply integratet in Ubuntu - who knows what can happend after some update?
I don’t remove all snaps either. Though not a fan of snaps the ones that are software like Firefox are gone replaced by .deb flies. The ones integral to Ubuntu remain, but really work in the background which i don’t see, unlike the programs I want to run.
If anything for software I would rather us app images instead of snaps or flatpaks. i Just make a folder called ‘user installed’ in file system, give ‘jim’ the permission and put the appimages there, then make a menu item for the programs, works great.
I also hide the snap file in home, so it doesn’t irritate me. Then I just forget about snaps!

I would also try to avoid Snap and switch to deb packages or AppImages. But Flatpak would also be fine for me. But I wouldn’t try to remove the complete Snap installation from my system.
