Update September 2025:
Since I’m stable on Fedora, and this distro is using mostly fresh packages, recently I found some issues on using my beloved xscreensaver: For some reasons it’s crashing when fading from desktop to lock screen and viceversa. I initially resolved it by disabling fading feature, it was working, but it was writing alot of warnings on journalctl about security policy. It seems nowdays xscreensaver is not safe as it was 5 years ago.
In the end I resolved this problem by uninstalling xscreensaver package and installing the package xsecurelock
made by Google: now I am not able to customize it visual appearance, the lock screen for me now is just a black screen with password prompt at the center of the screen.
I find this package very secure and well polished. No warnings nor log of any kind.
So yes the same, I open up the terminal, I Type “lock” and computer istantly going locked. This the procedure I like more.
