Hi all, I have a question to ask that since we all use Linux, which email client you prefer in Linux. I dont like keeping my Gmail open all the time in browser and hence i used previously two email client Thunderbird and BetterBird like every Linux user use, and not something that i am using specially. In both of these only one extension i found important and that is better conversation which allows you to see a threaded version of the conversations.
Let me know if you have better ideas or suggestions. While using Apple, i only use Apple Mail for many years. I am opne to hear what you have to say and let me have this information.
Good to know, i never used Evolution, only Thunderbird and Better Bird but that puts another one option to try and this is the best with the open source, you like, you test and install and if you dont then you uninstall and use another.
I vote for Thunderbird. The functionality I like more about this program is that it save all your profiles in one folder, and if need to format or change your OS you can simple transfer your folder from old installation to newer one, and it’s working.
And yes, I’m using Thunderbird as well on my Windows 11, it’s working really great. I really don’t like what comes with Windows, Outlook or Windows mail. On here there’s some payment features for transfer your email account to another PC. They are crazy.
I don’t know about Evolution, I barely tried it, it might be also powerful then Thunderbird.
For my experience I love to stay stuck with Thunderbird from almost 10 years.
I’ve been using Thunderbird on an always-on Windows 11 Thinkstation Tiny to backup all my Gmail. I use IMAP and disable reverse sync. So it only acts as a mirror of my gmail which has email going as far back as 2005
Just being paranoid, but this would be in the event that someday I try to login to Gmail and my account is lost or inaccessible.
Good to hear that. I only use Thunderbord as i cant keep Gmail open all the time and neither it is feasible. After coming to Germany, only used University email account for everything. I never remain paranoid to that as you can have any password, any wifi password, anything but you cant force a person both on personal and work relation and you should never as that will have no outcome(somethings you cant buy at any cost), so i never remain paranoid on that front as neother i look into where anyone is submitting application and neither i am interested in that as mentoined above.
I myself, always have at least one machine that keeps all of my emails locally, whether is it Thunderbird or Evolution.
For those that remember the original Microsoft Outlook for the desktop, Evolution was the Linux clone of that. It is developed by the Gnome Desktop and it is, in my opinion, much more powerful than Thunderbird. The one thing you have to keep in mind, is that at some point, Mozilla will start to data mine. For now all seems safe.
Didn’t know that. I always used Apple Mail till now and I really miss that feature in Linux as that was the most best part. Such a email client should be there for Linux community even if it comes at some price. Like previously there was no office for Linux so suddenly a spurge of office editors came and now everyone uses that.
@toadie have you ever used the Betterbird https://www.betterbird.eu/ It is a better version of Thunderbird, i used it for sometime and thinking of using it again but i would like to know, how you have found it as compared to the thunderbird, which we all use.
@toadie thank you for giving me this information. I am using only Thunderbird and want to know if someone else has used. I am planning to use Arch Linux soon may be manjaro kde but before that i will read a lot as i am proficient in Ubuntu and Fedora so Arch one will be a new addition but at the same time, it should not slow down what i do on daily basis, as each operating system is same, and it boils down to the information that what you can do with them rather which flavour of Linux you use.
I had a quick look at Betterbird. I can’t see any difference to thunderbird after 5 minutes…
Wish you much success
In my opinion, you can’t do much wrong with Manjaro
@toadie That’ss what i thought about Better bird and hence want to ask. I am not using Betterbird either but it is always good to ask others also if you can as that allow to be better. I am currently reading about Arch as how much it is of use, and will slowly transfer to Arch and not immediately.
@toadie nah from the website, it looks like it is not substantial and i am not a desktop or system installer person, so trying out different flavour of Linux is not my goal and nor i have interest. I prefer using the one which is strong, solid and substantial, hence used Ubuntu or Mint or Fedora till now and now will use Manjaro if i plan to use Arch Linux.
@toadie, thank you and i really thank you for this information. I have to install a new version yesterday and i tried Arch Manjaro but it seems to be not detecting the DELL drivers and then i rolled back to Fedora KDE as that is what i use and now configuring it and using it like the previous. I also don’t do distro hopping, only stick to these and it seems that i have to learn sometime Arch Linux down the lane as it was looking so fast and good.
@toadie the new system installation worked well as like every time with Fedora as usual, plus i usually dont access emails from morning to afternoon due to phone internet but today got a chance to connect as to send some replies and say thank you to you for the information and if you know as how to install the Manajro DELL driver then let me know.
