Calling for a discussion: Ubuntu Mate or Ubuntu + Mate DE

I have Ubuntu-MATE 26.04 installed on my stinkpad T420
It runs like a dream, so I don’t feel the need to take a different install route.
I’m very lazy economically oriented.

But if Ubuntu-MATE stops being a flavor and I want to stay on Ubuntu (questionable in the given case), I might try out Ubuntu-server + MATE desktop.

However, it is much more likely (for several reasons) that I would try Linux Mint MATE first or switch to Debian+MATE for two reaons:

  1. Ubuntu’s horribly bad flutter-in-snap installer.
  2. Ubuntu’s habit of forcing you to use snaps (escapable but annoying)

EDIT: Due to a very interesting post of @hydn CachyOS Is On the Rise — Here's Why It Deserves the Buzz - #38 by hydn , I added Cachy OS to my list of alternative distros to try out. TNX @hydn
