Hi Eric, thanks for reaching out. I hope your day is going well!
Best,
Duane
Thank you for the good wishes, Duane.
As a retired senior, my day would be going much better … if not for the chaos emanating from a certain vessel that seems to be under so much pressure that the check valves have blown and allowed the endless scatter of putrid discharges to land on everything surrounding it! Unfortunate for all of us, the discharges have so much force of momentum that it reaches far, far further than it should, because if it landed closer to home, it could eventually stopper the discharge and spare the rest of us the anxieties at a time that nobody has time for that kind of … {insert your own choice of expletives sufficient to the task}!
Hope your day is going much better!
. . . . . .
Not sure that democracy is living its finest hour … anywhere …

hi All Neeraj Pant this side from JP. recently I joined a linux program thats why I am here
hppy learning!!
Welcome to the community @neeraj8, glad to have you here! ![]()
Hi Im a life-long computer geek who wants to learn Linux-Fu. To build up his dormant command line skills. And to contribute to a wide tech community. I earned a Bachelors and Masters in CIS and Information Systems from Strayer University. Now in between coding and AI engineering I love to build robots and embedded systems.
Now onto the hacking.

I’ve already made a bunch of posts without introducing myself, so let me correct that. I turned 70 last month, have a bunch of kids, couple of grandkids, and spent 15 years in the military, another 15 working for the government, and even did some contract work for IBM. Started out with a Vic-20 back in the early 80’s, loved that Omega Race, and upgraded computer my systems many times over the years. I’ve used every version of Windows, except 11, began tinkering with Red Hat in the late 90’s, dual-booted Windows/Ubuntu from 2004-2014, switched to Mint in 2015, and never plan to return to Windows. I’ve used 6 different Operating Systems, 24 browsers, and 57 Linux distros over the years, and I’ve loved my life so far.
Welcome. I am 70 myself and have tried multiple Distros and browsers too. Now I don’t want to do that anymore, which is why I installed Ubuntu Mate and signed up for Ubuntu Pro.
Ubuntu Pro provides:
Ubuntu Pro mainly provides security updates and maintenance. Full technical support, such as break/fix assistance, is a separate support tier.
Of course we really don’t know how well that will work yet, and if it will work on a flavor as well as it does on standard Ubuntu, but there is nothing to lose in trying it.
Good luck to you with Linux in whatever you desire to do with it!
Hi Jymm, that’s one of the reasons I gave up on Ubuntu back in 2014, it had become way too corporate for my liking. I prefer LTS Mint running the Cinnamon DE on both my desktops. No required subscription, minimal maintenance, great support community, and I can upgrade to the latest release right through the update manager. That’s the beauty of Linux, you get to choose the distro that works best for YOU.
Hello!
I’m just a regular Linux user. I’ve been using Linux since 2012, when I started with Ubuntu, and I currently use CachyOS. Over the years, I’ve mostly used Ubuntu, Kiwi Linux, Linux Mint, Fedora, Xubuntu and RogentOS, but I’ve also tried many other distributions.
I’m not a Linux specialist or expert. I’ve simply learned what interested me and what I needed to know - nothing more. I’m not a programmer, sysadmin, developer, or engineer. I’m just a regular computer user.
But I’m curious about many things related to Linux, open source, and privacy.
I am a retired techie of long standing and decided to dump Windows and move to Linux so I am still feeling my wat around.

Welcome to the Community, Allan.
Given what you said, I encourage you to visit the links I provided in an earlier post.
A warm forum welcome to you @neeraj8 !
Likewise to you @TheArtOfDHT . You have a very good background.
@JohnWick Thanks for sharing your background, as well as the many posts you have already contributed to the community. We have a lot of diverse interests and various “ages”; I like yours because I also happen to be 70 and I have three grandchildren with another one expected in December.
Welcome to the forums @AllanL4711
What distro(s) are you starting to dabble with so far?
Welcome to the community @ThinkRoot, we’re glad you’re with us! ![]()
Hi Victor! It’s so cool to see what Valve have done with the Steam Deck and to see so many people using Linux “without realising”. My partner has a Deck and it’s amazing how seamless it all works. Really good example of Linux being used in my opinion, and allows for people to meet it in a more comfortable way I think.
Yeah okay, I am definitely remiss here. I never got to this part of being on this website.
Name’s Michael. I wash dishes at a tavern for a living and have never held a tech job. I am purely a hobbyist.
I love not running Microsoft anything, and I love running Linux systems. I own two laptops; one (my current daily driver) has a NixOS installation and my other (I consider it my “main” rig) has a Gentoo Linux installation. Because I am completely certifiably insane and do literally nothing in any way that could be called easy.
Hi @sarcutus welcome to our Linux forums! Those are two solid distros.
