Welcome Jim!

WOW! I had one too! But quickly realized I needed a real machine before I would make headway.

My next machine after the Sinclair was the Bytec Hyperion! But that was a rough journey best not relived. :frowning:

You might want to go over my earlier post, if relative newbie for Linux:

Hi all from Australia. I’m going down the rabbithole of De-Googleing (replace with FOSS), migrate from Windoze 10, and then for ‘light relief’, a look into homelabs and self hosting.
What specifically brought me to signing up here today was I’m looking at Immutable distro’s. So after reading a reply on this site (via a google search result) that really appealed to me with 1 possible use case for an immutable distro, here i am.
Now with ways to try distros apart from live usb’s & dual booting within win 10, and really embracing of ‘use cases’, maybe this time i can structure my learning around stuff i need to learn to do the cool/interesting stuff.
I’m also interested in AI but just on personal stuff like everyone else. I find it interesting how people are learning the intricacies of writing good prompts and reigning in the slop/nearly understandable string of words a broad prompt can give as a reply.
Anyway, can’t learn things while i’m (two finger) typing, so thanks for being here for the wave of refugees to come!

Retired and coming from Windows. Decided to change to Linux and have done so.
I am trying to make some progress.

@hapedre you might try looking over this site Hackosquadit’s free and it has subjects you may want to view in the future, just a thought.

Welcom to the Community, esskay!

When you say immutable, do you mean that

  • [Level 1] you want the Distro to be distributor-release frozen, that you cannot modify anything OS related, that the OS self-decides what to install/tweak based on target harware configuration?

  • [Level 2] you want the Distro to be frozen after install-time installer selections/customizations/tuning, with no post-install admin privileges?

  • [Level 3] you want the Distro to be fully open to admin modification/customization/tweaking but frozen/unfrozen using admin privileges?
