Transforming My Debian 13 Home Server: GNOME to Cockpit

I recently converted my old Debian 13 machine into a headless home server. After removing the GNOME desktop environment and managing the system through Cockpit, my server now idles at around 0.7% CPU usage .

It’s a noticeable improvement for this older hardware and a good reminder that, if a desktop environment isn’t needed, removing it can free up system resources while still allowing convenient remote management through Cockpit.

I’m also building my own monitoring dashboard using Next.js and Node.js to monitor the server alongside Cockpit. It’s been a fun project for learning more about Linux, self-hosting, and home lab management.
