During an email exchange on the Ottawa Linux Group mailing list, the following hosting and service provider came up. Thought their offering was interesting enough to mention it for all.

This looks very good indeed.
Disroot is a dutch foundation, their mission is idealistic.
For their finances they use the Triodos bank, also dutch, which is an idialistic and ‘green’ financial institute.
The cloudservice they use is German (Nextcloud GMBH) so not vulnerable to the (internationally illegal) US Cloud Act
All their offered services seem ‘clean’ and seem to be designed to inherently respect the GDPR
This might be as much as interesting as (or even more than) the Proton platform
